Good News! Incoming LSAT honors scholars who meet residency requirements are eligible to receive a 10% scholarship level increase.

Increasing the Honors Scholarship Award

Once enrolled, a student receiving an honors scholarship of 50% or less may increase the level of that scholarship through academic achievement in subsequent terms, based on the class ranking system. The new, higher scholarship award is continued as a minimum award for the duration of the student's enrollment in good standing at Cooley.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are eligible for scholarships similar to new entering students by either qualifying based upon their undergraduate grade point average and LSAT score (Index) OR based upon their LSAT score.

Transfer students can also qualify for an Honors Scholarship based upon their class rank at the school from which their transfer occurs. The scholarship amount will be determined by class rank as described in the ranking chart.

These scholarships are retained at the level of the original award and are not increased or decreased in amount, so long as the student remains in good standing.* Transfer students may also be eligible for the Michigan Resident Honors Scholarship Enhancement Program if they meet the criteria.

Current Students

Students may also earn Honors Scholarships from 15 to 55% based on their class ranking at Cooley, even if they did not earn an Honors Scholarship upon entering.

All Cooley students who have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours are eligible for an Honors Scholarship based on their academic achievement. Scholarships will be awarded to the top 25 percent of those students in each of the credit hour completed groupings.

Each term, after examinations are completed and grades are determined, a class rank list is generated by the Registrar's Office of all students completing that term in academic good standing and who were not subject to sanction under the Honor Code or Disciplinary Procedures. Scholarship awards for enrolled students will be applied in the term following the calculation of class rank determining eligibility (normally two terms from the term of achievement).

The initial Honors Scholarship is continued for the duration of the student's enrollment at the law school only if the student remains in good standing academically, is not subject to sanction under the Honor Code or Disciplinary Procedures, and Cooley Law School continues the Honors Scholarship Program.

* The bar exam figures are first-time passing rates in Michigan from 1996 to February 2010. The collective first-time passing rate for Michigan's Index Scholarship qualifiers was 89%, while that of LSAT Scholarship qualifiers was 87%. During this period, the Michigan passage rate for all first-time takers was 81%. A student qualifying for both honors scholarships will be awarded the higher of the two and will retain their highest scholarship amount for the duration of the student's enrollment so long as the student remains in good standing.
