Cooley is the largest law school in the country with over 15,000 graduates, four campuses across Michigan, and a new campus in Tampa Bay, Florida. In addition to the J.D. degree, students can pursue a graduate or joint degree.

Our History

The Thomas M. Cooley Law School was founded in 1972 by a group of lawyers and judges led by the then Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, Thomas E. Brennan. The school was named for Thomas McIntyre Cooley, a legal scholar and practicing attorney of the 19th century.

Cooley Law School is among the nation’s most affordable independent colleges of law ranking 10th in affordability among 111 private law schools in the nation. Classes start in January, May and September with flexible schedules that include part-time day, weekend and evening programs.
