Cooley Law School Teams With Area Lawyers To Provide Free Legal Services To Deploying Marines At Camp Grayling This Weekend
Camp Grayling Event May 17-18 to Assist Up to 250 Marine Reservists
The Thomas M. Cooley Law School will team with area lawyers this weekend at Camp
Grayling, Mich., to provide free wills and powers of attorney to approximately 250 Marine reservists who will be deployed to the Middle East. The initiative is part of Cooley's Service to Soldiers: Legal Assistance Referral Program that has already assisted troops from all across Michigan.
This deployment and the need for legal services for these troops was brought to Cooley's attention late last month by "Team Selfridge" which consists of all the unit commanders at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Brigadier General Michael L. Peplinski, Commander of the 127th Michigan Air National Guard Wing at Selfridge, thanks Cooley and the participating lawyers for these services.
"We are thankful for Cooley's support and care for our service members and to all who are stepping up to this effort," he said. "It does not go unnoticed and we are grateful for their service and volunteerism."
Service to Soldiers is one of 17 programs run through Cooley's Center for Ethics, Service, and Professionalism that provide legal and other services to those in need while involving Cooley students in public service opportunities that help them learn about the ethical duties and obligations that lawyers have to their communities.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Cooley Law School is the largest law school in the country. Founded in 1972, it operates J.D. programs across Michigan in downtown Lansing, Auburn Hills and downtown Grand Rapids. Today, Cooley Law School has more than 12,000 graduates across the nation and worldwide and also offers joint degree and master of laws programs. Cooley offers enrollment three times a year; in January, May and September. Additional information about Cooley can be found at www.cooley.edu.
