People’s Law School Returns
The People’s Law School returns to Cooley Law School this month with an eight-week program of practical legal lessons for the general public.
Since 1978, the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association has presented People’s Law Schools across the state with justices, judges, seasoned attorneys, law professors and elected officials presenting lively lectures on legal issues that have an impact on every day life.
"Our People’s Law School (PLS) faculty all have many years of experience in the subjects they're discussing. PLS students can learn much from them," noted Cooley Professor Evelyn Tombers. "The People's Law School is a wonderful way for anyone to learn more about our justice system and their legal rights."
The program is designed for the general population, but the sessions have been known to spark a deeper interest. Tombers noted, "I remember some people telling me that they were thinking about going to law school now that the PLS had awakened that interest."
The popular program begins this year on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and continues through Tuesday, Oct. 31. The sessions will meet 7-9 p.m. in the sixth floor auditorium of Cooley’s Temple Building at 217 S. Capitol in downtown Lansing. The cost, $20, covers all materials, and interested persons can register online at www.mtla.net. Seats are limited.
The program is presented by the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, Cooley Law School and the Sinas Dramis Law Firm.
