Prof. Joe Kimble has built a global reputation based
on experience, excellence, and plain language.
Professor Kimble has over twenty-five years of teaching
experience, is the Chair of the department and an international
leader of the plain-language movement. He served as a drafting
consultant on all federal court rules and is a longtime
editor of a legal-writing column
The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing.
He has
given more than 100 presentations on
plain language and legal writing. He's a founding director
of the Center for Plain Language and the past president of
the international organization Clarity.
He
is the author of the acclaimed book Lifting
the Fog
of Legalese: Essays
on Plain Language. |

On Monday, June 13, 2011 Professor
Kimble received his second Burton Award for Legal Achievement for his work in redrafting the Federal
Rules of Civil Procedure.
Professor Kimble was also awarded his first Burton
Award for Legal Writing at the Library of Congress, Washington,
D.C., June 4, 2007.
He is the editor in chief of The
Scribes Journal of Legal Writing, the editor of the "Plain Language" column
in the Michigan Bar Journal,
a founding director of the Center
for Plain Language, and the past president of the international
organization Clarity. |
