Professor Halushka comes to the Cooley faculty with an extensive background in criminal law and procedure. Upon graduation from law school she joined the Oakland County Prosecutor's office, where she served 11 years prosecuting misdemeanors, delinquency offenses and felonies. During the last three years of her tenure with the prosecutor's office she served as its Juvenile Division Chief Attorney.
After leaving the prosecutor's office, she joined the law firm of Adkison, Need, Green and Allen, PLLC, in Bloomfield Hills , Mich. , where she served in that firm's litigation department. During this same time the Michigan Lawyer's Weekly named Professor Halushka as one of its Top 10 Lawyers in Michigan for the year 2000, following her successful murder prosecution in People v Abraham.
Most recently she served as Chief Counsel of the Juvenile Law Group for the Legal Aid and Defender Association, defending juveniles in misdemeanor, felony and child abuse offenses.
During law school, Professor Halushka was a member of the American Inn of Court, the Urban Law Clinic, the University of Detroit Law Review and the St. Thomas More Society. She has lectured extensively throughout the state on juvenile and criminal law, and has appeared numerous times as a juvenile and criminal justice expert on CNN, MSNBC and Rivera Live.
Professor Halushka teaches Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.
