Professor Carey joined Cooley Law School in 2005, and teaches at the Auburn Hills campus..

Previously, he worked as Of Counsel in the Business Transactions Group of Dickinson Wright P.L.L.C. and as an Associate with the Corporate and Insurance Services groups of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood L.L.P. His major areas of practice included counseling operating companies and banks on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, lending/borrowing, corporate finance, securities offerings, and regulatory matters.

Professor Carey has also served as an account executive at Dean Witter Reynolds; as a district manager at Financial Services, of America, and as executive director of the nonprofit charity, DeMolay Foundation of Michigan, Inc. He also owned and operated his own business CJL Computer Services.

He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Cooley, teaching Wills, Trusts and Estates.

He has also served as a summer associate at Sidley & Austin, a law clerk for the 19th District Court in Dearborn, Mich., an intern in the Michigan Senate Majority Office, and an assistant legal investigator at Dykema Gossett in Detroit, Mich.

Professor Carey teaches Business Organizations, Wills, Trusts and Estates, and Securities Regulation.
