Continuing Legal Education

Many state bars require their member attorneys to continue their legal education. The purpose is for lawyers to keep abreast of the most recent developments in the law and to continue to educate themselves throughout the course of their careers. Most courses are day or half-day seminars. Each state has its own requirements as to how many hours an attorney must earn each year and how the hours are to be reported. For additional information on specific states please contact the Bar Association for that state. Michigan has no mandatory CLE requirement for practicing attorneys.

  • ICLE (Institute of Continuing Legal Education)

  • The Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) is a nonprofit continuing legal education organization, entirely self-supported by its seminar registration fees and publication sales. ICLE offers seminars in all major practice areas and is Michigan's leading provider of law seminars. For more information contact www.icle.org.

  • PLI (Practicing Law Institute)

Practicing Law Institute (PLI) is a nonprofit continuing legal education organization dedicated to providing the legal community with the most up-to-date, relevant information, and techniques which are critical to the development of a professional and competence edge. PLI programs are approved in all states that require attorneys to take mandatory Continuing Legal Education. Please be sure to check with your state for details.
