Tammy Asher
Professor Asher participated in New Law Student Orientation on Professionalism; volunteered at Scotch Elementary School’s book fair; volunteered at Scotch FunD Run; and participated in the Pro Bono Training by Lake Shore Legal Aids.
Stevie Barachkov
Professor Barachov and her class collected numerous donations for the Macomb Intermediate School District. These cash donations, gift cards, backpacks, socks, and school supplies were delivered to assist homeless children in Macomb County.
James Carey
Professor Carey was elected to the Council of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Mark Cooney
Professor Cooney participated in the Sept. 10, 2009 Au Sable River Clean-Up, organized by Anglers of the Au Sable, a conservation group dedicated to preserving northern Michigan's coldwater fisheries and watersheds. Professor Cooney waded a half-mile stretch of the Au Sable's north branch, removing trash along the way.

Professor Halushka was selected by ICLE to write the chapter on Juvenile Proceedings for their upcoming Criminal Procedure handbook.
Ashley Lowe
Professor Johnson participated in the State Bar of Michigan’s Pilot New Law Student Professionalism Orientation. Professor Johnson served as a small group leader breaking out with the new students to discuss and resolve ethical dilemmas in the practice of law.
Martha Moore
As a member of the Attorney Grievance Commission, Professor Moore participated in a luncheon meeting with the Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court to discuss the attorney disciplinary process and proposed rule changes. Professor Moore made a presentation to the Court on Trust Mills in Michigan.
As incoming Vice-Chair of the Attorney Grievance Commission, Professor Moore attended a planning meeting with then Chair and Vice-Chair of the Attorney Grievance Commission. She also participated in Cooley-AH's Professional Orientation; attended the regular monthly meeting of the Attorney Grievance Commission; conducted three Character and Fitness Hearings for the State Bar' spoke on the legal profession at Rochester Adams High School in Rochester, Michigan; selected as Master of Oakland County Bar Association Inns of Court; participated in Cooley-AH's pro bono training; and assisted in organization and planning of the Wolverine and Straker Bar Annual Law Student Reception.
Monica Navarro
Professor Navarro was elected into the Council of the Michigan Bar Health Law Section.
Professor Navarro also attended the 2009 Hispanic Leaders Summit sponsored by the Hispanic Business Alliance and the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan.
Professor Navarro was featured in Michigan Lawyers Weekly in connection with the settlement of United States ex rel. Maria Hoepner v. St. John Health Systems, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Professor Navarro was appointed Co-Chair of the Publications Committee for the Michigan Bar Health Law Section.
Lauren Rousseau
Professor Rousseau attended a WLAM networking event at the home of Court of Appeals Judge Kirsten Frank Kelly on Sept 15.
Professor Rousseau also attended the meeting of the Representative Assembly of the SBM (since she is on the assembly) on Sept. 17, as well as the Inaugural Luncheon of the SBM meeting.
Gina Torielli
Professor Torielli was featured in the SBAM Taxation Section e-newsletter, which acknowledges the work Professor Torielli did with the Section to develop a position on proposed legislation to reform the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
Professor Torielli moved up in the Section chairs, becoming the Section vice-chair.

Frank Aiello
In July 2009, Professor Aiello participated in the Tigers event with students and potential employers.
In August 2009, Professor Aiello participated in Recruitment Training.
Tammy Asher
In July 2009, Professor Asher attended the Honors Convocation and the Glass Ceiling presentation by the WLAM organization.
Additionally, Professor Asher and her children "adopted" a soldier through an organization called Soldiers' Angels. They committed to writing at least one letter per week and sending at least one care package per month to "their" soldier.
At the end of the August, Professor Asher will be participating in the second annual Cooley AH Golf Outing.
Dustin Foster
In June 2009, Professor Foster organized and participated in a professional responsibility luncheon between Estate Planning and Family Law Clinic students and Professional Responsibility students to discuss ethical issues faced by Clinic students.
In June, July and August, Professor Foster and his Estate Planning Clinic students served meals on wheels to members of the Pontiac Community.
Alan Gershel
In August 2009, the United States Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of Michigan dedicated its 2008 Annual Report to Professor Gershel for his years of dedicated service, professionalism and integrity.
Ashley Lowe
In June 2009, Professor Lowe presented Pro Bono Awards at the Oakland County Bar Association Annual Meeting; participated in a clinic workshop, presenting clinical experience options to students at AH; attended a Family Court Forum, a conference of family law attorneys, court staff and psychologists exploring the psychological issues in family law; attended an OCBA-sponsored swearing in of new attorneys, and sponsored Syeda Hossain individually; attended a family court task force regarding plans to implement e-filing in family court; attended an ACLU lawyers committee meeting; and, organized and participated in a professional responsibility luncheon between Estate Planning and Family Law Clinic students and Professional Responsibility students to discuss ethical issues faced by clinic students.
In July 2009, Professor Lowe attended a State Bar of Michigan Pro Bono Initiative meeting; attended an AH Chapter of Women's Lawyers of Michigan meeting (Professor Lowe is the faculty advisor); attended a domestic violence stakeholders meeting at a free legal aid clinic in Detroit; served as moderator for a WLAM panel discussion entitled “The Glass Ceiling;” attended a State Bar of Michigan State Planning Body meeting; presented awards to graduating clinical students at the Auburn Hills Honors Convocation; and, attended a Help Taskforce meeting (whose purpose is to coordinate legal services in Oakland County).
Martha Moore
In June 2009, Professor Moore participated in a professional responsibility luncheon between Estate Planning and Family Law Clinic students and Professional Responsibility students to discuss ethical issues faced by clinic students.
Professor Moore also participated in a joint service project by the Auburn Hills Chapter of the Christian Legal Society, Black Law Student Association and Phi Alpha Delta by preparing food to serve at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen in Detroit, Michigan.
Professor Moore also worked with the Black Law Student Association in presenting its Second Annual Community Legal Resources Fair at the Auburn Hills Campus.
Professor Moore also worked with the Christian legal Society in presenting a Love and the Law Forum featuring the Honorable Denise Page Hood and her husband Rev. Nicholas Hood III, Chief Judge of the Wayne County Circuit Court, the Honorable Edward Ewell Jr. and his wife, Professor Florise Neville-Ewell.
In July 2009, the Michigan Supreme Court appointed Professor Moore to serve as Vice Chairman of the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission. In preparation for a September 1st luncheon meeting with the Justices of the Michigan Supreme Court, Professor Moore was assigned to make a presentation to the Justices on problems attendant with non-lawyer organizations that hire attorneys to prepare wills and trusts; enter into fee-sharing arrangements with the lawyers and engage in the unauthorized practice of law.
In July 2009, Professor Moore organized an all-day Oakland County Circuit Court visit for her Professional Responsibility and Civil Procedure students.
In August 2009, Professor Moore and members of the Phi Alpha Delta plan to host a barbecue for residents of the Interim House, a domestic violence shelter in Detroit, Michigan.
Monica Navarro
In August 2009, Monica Navarro served as a Moot Court Judge in the Thomas Cooley Law School Moot Court Competition at the Auburn Hills Campus.
Florise Neville-Ewell
In June 2009, Professor Neville-Ewell participated in a professional responsibility luncheon between Estate Planning and Family Law Clinic students and Professional Responsibility students to discuss ethical issues faced by clinic students. Professor Neville-Ewell also participated in a Love and the Law Forum featuring her husband, Chief Judge of the Wayne County Circuit Court, the Honorable Edward Ewell Jr. and the Honorable Denise Page Hood and her husband Rev. Nicholas Hood III.
In August 2009, Professor Neville-Ewell spoke on the foreclosure crisis on a forum presented by the Sixty Plus Clinic.
Jim Robb
Dean Robb served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation.
Dean Robb also served as the Chair of the City of Birmingham's Board of Ethics.
Lauren Rousseau
In June 2009, Professor Rousseau was elected to serve as a member of the Representative Assembly of the State Bar of Michigan, for the 6th Judicial Circuit.
Professor Rousseau had previously been appointed to serve on the Assembly for the 3rd Judicial Circuit, but in the last election was elected to fill a vacancy on the 6th Circuit.
In July 2009, Professor Rousseau participated in a panel discussion sponsored by Cooley AH's Women Lawyers Association of Michigan student chapter, entitled "Breaking the Glass Ceiling."
Gina Torielli
Professor Torielli participated in the Tigers event with students and potential employers.
Professor Torielli serves as the faculty reviewer for the ABA Taxation Section Tax Exempt Organization Committee's annual report on new developments, and will be completing her work in August 2009.
Additionally, Professor Torielli met with a representative of the Auburn Hills Police and Fireman Retirement Board to discuss tax and municipal law issues as a pro bono service.
Still further, Professor Torielli and Lisa Fadler conducted several meetings with potential tax employers and externship sites to develop opportunities for JD and LLM students wanting to work in taxation. The Michigan Tax Lawyer's summer issue contains an article co-authored by several LLM and JD students updating the bar on tax changes in the stimulus bill. This was an outgrowth of Cooley’s tax writing competition and Professor Larson edited the article.
Finally, Professor Torielli was featured in an article in the local Oxford Leader about the lacavores food movement. (A lacavore is someone who eats food that is grown locally. They can just buy produce locally and consume it thus keeping money in the local community or they can go one step further and produce it themselves).
