Tammy Asher

Professor Asher attended the CLEO orientation lunch and taught the Legal Writing portion of the course, played in the SBA student/faculty golf outing, chaperoned a 2nd-grade field trip to the Children's Museum in Ann Arbor, and attended the 14th Biennial Conference of the Legal Writing Institute in Marco Island, Florida.

Stevie Barachkov

Professor Barachkov bought school supplies for homeless children in Macomb County.

Professor Barachkov also bought two grocery bags of items for the troops and sent a huge box of gifts cards, cash, and toys to the Make a Wish folks.

Professor Barachkov was awarded the Bloomfield Hills Optimist Club's Respect the Law Award for community service with children.

David Berry

Professor Berry David participated in the State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section Summit at the Grand Traverse Resort on June 4 and presented a program on Avoiding Pitfalls in Intellectual Property Law.

Professor Berry participated on a panel to discuss a recent Supreme Court patent decision, Bilski v. Kappos, at the Auburn Hills Campus. The panel discussion was presented by the AH SIPLA. The other speakers were Matt Binkowski of Howard & Howard and Prof. Gautam Singh from the Oakland University School of Engineering.

Professor Berry also updated the IP LLM webpage with current news and events information. The page now includes "blog-style" notes on current IP issues.

James Carey

Professor James Carey participated on an Immigration Law Panel. The panel was presented for Cooley-AH students and took an in depth look at the Arizona Immigration Law and what it means to citizens across the country. Myra Miles and Bill Goodman were also part of the panel. In addition, Professor James Carey engaged in a debate titled Guns and Free Association. Dean Ray and Professor Carey debated the pros and cons of the recent Supreme Court decisions McDonald v Chicago and CLS v Martinez, and their interpretations of the Constitution.

Mark Cooney

Professor Cooney served as a panelist with Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly and U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker at the 2010 Michigan Appellate Bench-Bar Conference, for the plenary discussion of “Collegiality Between Parallel Courts: Erie/Reverse Erie/Certified Questions,” June 11, Plymouth, Michigan.

Professor Cooney served as a volunteer for the Friends of the Rouge River's annual river clean-up.

Professor Cooney also attended Legal Writing Institute's 2010 biennial conference in Marco Island, Florida, attended the State Bar Environmental Law Section program on alternative energy and new environmental legislation in Roscommon, Michigan, attended the board meeting of Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society's Advocates' Guild, hosted by Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly at Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, Michigan.

Professor Cooney also attended the Cooley-Auburn Hills Environmental Law Society's "Brown Bag" speaker series featuring attorney Saulis Mikalonis.

Ashley Lowe

Professor Lowe was appointed to HAVEN's taskforce to establish a Family Justice Center for Oakland County's domestic violence survivors, appeared as cooperating attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in case regarding second parent adoptions and custody, and was appointed to Board of Trustees of Roeper School.

Professor Lowe also presented "How to Survive Your First Divorce Case" at the Young Lawyers Summit in Traverse City, Michigan, attended Family Court Forum, a one day conference of family law attorneys and judges meeting with mental health professionals to discuss ways to improve the family court system. On June 3, the Family Law Assistance Project presented its Pro Bono Awards to Mar Sclawy and Elizabeth Silverman at the Oakland County Bar Association Annual Meeting.

Professor Lowe was assigned to a working group of the Solutions on Self Help (SOS) Task Force, a group established in April 2010 by Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly to implement six recommendations to promote greater centralization, coordination and quality of support for the self-represented in Michigan. The workgroup's project is to establish a statewide self-help web-site pilot.

Martha Moore

Professor Moore attended the monthly meeting of the Attorney Grievance Commission as its Vice-Chairman and conducted a Character and Fitness Hearing.

Professor Moore served as faculty for CLEO Sophomore Summer Institute, teaching Professional Responsibility.

Monica Navarro

Professor Navarro attended the Auburn Hills Hispanic Latino Law Society Salsa Party Mixer and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan, chaired Counselors for the Cure, the Race for the Cure Team for the Michigan Bar Health Law Section, served as -Co-Chair/Editor in Chief, Michigan Bar Journal Health Law Edition, due out in April of 2011.

Professor Navarro also presented "What attorneys need to know about whistleblowers and qui tam Litigation," Michigan Association for Justice Webinar, May 2010.

Professor Navarro served as Lead Counsel, J&J Litigation in re Topamax resulting in $81 million settlement, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Florise Neville-Ewell

Professor Neville-Ewell and the 10Core student organization met with DAWDA, MANN (a major commercial real estate firm) who treated four members of the 10CORE Executive Board and Professor Neville-Ewell to lunch to discuss "how DAWDA could support the organization's scholarship committee." Because of that meeting, Arvinder Ubi, Vice President of the Scholarship committee, has a commitment from the firm that their lawyers will help students write articles.

Professor Neville-Ewell hosted a 10Core luncheon with a speaker from HUD who talked about "Fair Housing."

Lauren Rousseau

Professor Rousseau attended the OCBA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, attended the CPD Tiger's Game event, and attended the Federal Bar Association dinner honoring judges of the Eastern District of Michigan.
