Before joining Cooley Law School , Professor Fisher was a senior partner and manager of the Municipal Practice Group at Secrest Wardle, a firm with offices in Farmington Hills, Mt. Clemens, Lansing and Grand Rapids .
He served as general counsel for the city of Novi, Mich., and several other municipalities, and as special counsel for governmental entities throughout Michigan. In addition, he served as counsel on behalf of property owners regarding land use matters, and was an adjunct professor at Cooley, teaching Planning and Zoning Law.
He has been a frequent author and speaker on land use issues and municipal law, and has appeared in a number of Michigan Supreme Court cases involving zoning, condemnation, billboard regulation and lake regulation, including appearances on behalf of the Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Townships Association and State Bar of Michigan Public Corporation Law Section as amicus curiae .
Professor Fisher served as chairperson of the Public Corporation Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, 1994-1995; and co-chairperson of the Court of Appeals Committee for the State Bar of Michigan, 1978-1979. He was also the recipient of the Robert P. Hutchens Award from the State Bar of Michigan in 1979.
At Cooley, Professor Fisher teaches Property.
